Why It May Be Requested

One record. Different destination. Different requirements.

The receiving authority—not the document alone—determines which certification, translation, or legalization steps apply.

01 / 04

Immigration & residency

A marriage certificate may be requested as evidence of a legal relationship for immigration, residency, dependent status, or family-based applications.

Document Readiness

The correct copy is the difference between progress and delay.

A scan or keepsake copy may be useful for our initial review, but official use commonly requires a certified copy issued by the government office that holds the marriage record.

01

Issuing authorityWhere the marriage was recorded and which office certified it.

02

Certificate conditionCertification, signatures, seals, legibility, and document completeness.

03

Language & deliveryTranslation needs, deadline, return location, and preferred shipping method.

Do not notarize or alter the original record. Send us a scan first so we can confirm the acceptable document version and processing route.

Marriage Certificate FAQs

Clear answers before your document starts moving.

Requirements vary by issuing state, destination country, and receiving authority. We confirm the route for your specific request.

Ask about your certificate

A marriage license authorizes the marriage, while the completed and recorded marriage record is generally the version requested for official or international use. Terminology varies by jurisdiction, so we review the document itself.

Generally, no. For an Arizona marriage record, the apostille is normally attached to a physical certified copy issued by the government office. After reviewing your scan, EZPZ will confirm whether you should mail or deliver that certified copy—or whether record retrieval can be coordinated.

If apostille or legalization requires the physical certified copy, yes—but only after EZPZ reviews your scan and confirms the document is suitable. You are usually sending an official certified copy from the issuing office, not an irreplaceable keepsake. If EZPZ retrieves the certified copy directly, you may not need to ship one.

A state-issued marriage record is generally authenticated by the competent authority in the state where the record was issued—not simply the state where you currently live.

The document may require authentication and additional embassy or consular legalization instead of a standard apostille. We confirm the destination before processing begins.

Yes. When the receiving authority requires another language, certified translation can be coordinated as part of the request after the document and language requirements are reviewed.

Timing depends on the document’s current condition, issuing state, destination, and any retrieval or legalization steps. Expedited and same/next-day options may be available for eligible Arizona requests after review.

Begin with certainty

Before you ship the certified copy, let us review a scan.

Upload a scan and tell us where the marriage certificate was issued and where it needs to be used. We’ll confirm whether a physical certified copy must be shipped, can be hand-delivered, or may be retrieved for you.
